Does the idea follows the photo or the photo follows the idea?
As usual it depends.
Most of the times I just press the shutter and when I edit the pic I come up with new ideas of colors, tones and moods.
Recently, I got obsessed with pics like these.
Superbright, superclean, superwhite.
The reason why I’m studying this style it’s because I have a clear idea about what I want to capture but I need the aesthetic to express what I want. I mean: the aesthetic and the photo cannot be separated from the message you want to communicate.
Message = Photo + Aesthetic
A photo can still look beautiful even if edited in several ways, but in my opinion you can tie just one message with a set of colors and tones (but that’s for another blog post).
By the way, it took me about two weeks to understand how to achieve this:
I experimented for many days and I was closer to what I had in mind regarding the aesthetic but at the same time something was missing. How I reached what I want was a sort of eureka. I was having a shower (not kidding) while I realized to play with single colors to achieve a superbright, superclean, superwhite effect.
I mean, I’m not a professional photographer. I’m still learning and I want to share my learnings with you : — )
So now I have the aesthetic this implies that I can look for the right shots…and this will be far harder!
